Mayo Clinic, Special Care Nursery

The Mayo Clinic undertook this project to fit out a space for its Level II newborn healthcare facility, upgrading from the traditional model of the single open-room nursery to private patient rooms. This fit-out includes 17 single patient rooms, one twins patient room, and one triplets patient room. The project links private patient rooms, adjacent nurse stations, and many amenities along a “garden path”, taking the theme of a “Discovery Flower Garden”. Inlaid laser-cut floor patterns and custom feature walls are in a motif of Minnesota wildflowers and butterflies. Softly curved ceiling transitions are enhanced by subtly shifting LED lighting colors that evoke the spectrum of the outdoors. The result: a soothing, modern healing environment for the tiny patients, an upbeat and safe environment for caregivers, and an inviting and comforting experience for patient families.
